Diocesan Youth Ministry
The Anglican Diocese of SC provides social, missionary, and spiritual growth opportunities for students in grades 6-12. Students participate in several retreat events each year that combine spiritual development with first-class fun activities, such as RE:GENERATE and Jesus Weekend.
Occasions for mission and ministry abound. Recent projects include Christmas donations to the area Men’s Mission, Souper Bowl of Caring, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Family Fun Week/Vacation Bible School, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, and local mission work (yard work and basic home repair for senior citizens and others in need).
Volunteers
Volunteering with the youth ministry at St. John’s can be one of the most rewarding things you can do. Coming alongside a young person and helping them navigate the confusing world of adolescence is both rewarding and challenging. Adults and senior high students alike are trained and encouraged to grow in their knowledge and faith in the unchanging word of God as they face this rapidly changing culture.
Giving of your time in this way pays dividends in many great ways. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Charlotte Smith at the parish office (662-5585) or csmith@stjohnsflorence.org.
If you do not feel the call or just don’t have the time but still want to help, here is your chance. Here is a short list of ways: donate money to youth or scholarship programs; lend a house for a party or a weekend; shorten the wish list; donate snacks and drinks; or drive youth to one of the many events during the year.
